Mangione may plead guilty in federal case: report
Luigi Mangione who is accused of killing a health insurance boss in Manhattan may plead guilty to stalking charges in his federal case, The New York Times reported Thursday.
Mangione is alleged to have shot dead chief executive of UnitedHealthcare Brian Thompson, 50, in New York in December 2024, in protest at the US insurance system.
He is facing stalking charges in the federal system, alongside murder charges in the state system.
The stalking charges and the murder charges could both lead to life sentences. Two other federal charges that carried the death penalty were thrown out by a judge earlier this year.
Mangione is due in court for a conference between his defense attorneys, prosecutors and the judge on Friday, officials said.
His lawyers did not respond to a request for comment. Prosecutors declined to comment.
