اعتبر الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع صباح الثلاثاء أن بلاده تطوي صفحة من "ماضيها الأليم"، بعدما أنهت الولايات المتحدة تصنيفها كدولة راعية للإرهاب.
وقال الشرع إن سوريا "تمزق بأيديها صفحة من ماضيها الأليم لتنطلق إلى فضاء التنمية والإعمار والبناء".
يأتي ذلك غداة إعلان واشنطن إزالة سوريا من قائمة الدول الراعية للإرهاب، منهية بذلك تصنيفا اعتمدته منذ 47 عاما وترافق مع قيود اقتصادية مشدّدة، في خطوة إضافية نحو تعزيز العلاقات بين البلدين.
