Geglückter Einstand für Xabi Alonso beim FC Chelsea: Der neue Trainer der Blues hat zum Auftakt der Premier-League-Saison am Montagabend mit seinem Team im Stadtderby beim FC Fulham 3:2 (2:1) gewonnen.
Joao Pedro sorgte nach 31 Sekunden für einen Blitzstart Chelseas, Morgan Rogers (41.) und Cole Palmer (49.) legten nach. Für Fulham waren beim Debüt des ehemaligen Real-Madrid-Trainers Alvaro Arbeloa Josh King (23.) und Gonzalo (54.) erfolgreich.
Die Verpflichtung Alonsos als neuer Chelsea-Coach war Mitte Mai offiziell geworden. Zuvor hatte der Leverkusener Meistertrainer von 2024 Real Madrid trainiert, dort war er Anfang Januar allerdings nach nur einem halben Jahr entlassen worden. Arbeloa wurde sein Nachfolger, musste nach Saisonende jedoch ebenfalls gehen.
