En un intenso duelo entre estadounidenses, Jessica Pegula derrotó el jueves a Amanda Anisimova en el tiebreak decisivo y sacó el primer boleto a las semifinales del torneo WTA 1000 de Cincinnati.
Pegula, número tres mundial, superó a Anisimova (10º) por 6-4, 2-6 y 7-6 (7/4) en dos horas y 15 minutos de juego en la pista central.
Subcampeona del evento en 2024, Pegula pugnará en semifinales contra la ganadora del choque del jueves entre la kazaja Elena Rybakina, número dos mundial, y la polaca Iga Swiatek.
En los otros cruces de cuartos femeninos, que se disputarán el viernes, las estadounidenses Coco Gauff y Madison Keys chocarán ante la ucraniana Marta Kostyuk y la checa Sara Bejlek, respectivamente.
