Die US-Regierung hat am Donnerstag neue Zölle gegen rund 60 internationale Handelspartner angekündigt. Die Aufschläge von zehn bis 12,5 Prozent treten dem Weißen Haus zufolge in der Nacht zum Freitag (0.01 Uhr Ortszeit, 6.01 Uhr MESZ) in Kraft. Gleichzeitig läuft ein bisher geltender weltweiter Sonderzoll von zehn Prozent auf US-Importe aus.
Für die Europäische Union greift demnach auch künftig ein allgemeiner US-Zollsatz von zehn Prozent. Gleiches gilt etwa für Großbritannien oder Kanada. Gegen Länder wie China oder Japan verhängen die USA dagegen den höheren Satz von 12,5 Prozent.
Die Regierung von Präsident Donald Trump begründet die neuen Aufschläge mit einem unzureichenden Vorgehen der Handelspartner gegen Zwangsarbeit. Für Produkte etwa aus Stahl und Aluminium gelten weiter höhere sektorspezifische Zölle.
