أعلنت الولايات المتحدة الاثنين المباشرة بتطبيق "المناطق التجريبية" في جنوب لبنان، بموجب اتفاق إطار أبرمته الحكومتان اللبنانية والإسرائيلية في حزيران/يونيو، وبعد أيام من جولة مفاوضات جديدة بين الطرفين برعاية واشنطن في روما.
وجاء في بيان لوزارة الخارجية الأميركية "بدأ اليوم تطبيق عمليات المناطق التجريبية في قرى فرون وصريفا وزوطر الغربية، بما يتوافق مع الاتفاق الإطاري الثلاثي وبإشراف مجموعة التنسيق العسكري من أجل لبنان".
وأبرم لبنان واسرائيل في 26 حزيران/يونيو اتفاق إطار بعد خمس جولات تفاوضية، ينصّ خصوصا على نزع سلاح حزب الله وانسحاب اسرائيل تدريجيا من الأراضي التي توغلت إليها في جنوب لبنان، وانتشار الجيش اللبناني بدءا من "منطقتين تجريبيتين".
