An armed gang kidnapped more than 40 people in northwestern Nigeria over the weekend, a survivor of the attacks and a local government chairman told AFP on Tuesday.
"As I am talking to you now we have over 40 of our people" held hostage after a series of raids from Friday through Sunday, said Alhaji Lauwali Abdullahi, a resident of Zamfara state's Maru local government area.
Bello Jabaka, chairman of the Maru local government area, confirmed the abductions.
