The Brazilian government said Wednesday it had filed a lawsuit to force the Discord messaging platform to adopt stronger measures to protect children, and is seeking almost $100 million in "collective moral damages."

The government said in a statement the move came as Discord "continues to exhibit flaws in its age verification and user protection mechanisms" exposing users to serious risks, such as those that resulted in the death of a 13-year-old girl in July.
