From September 2 to 17, the international photojournalism festival Visa Pour l’Image is honouring the work of AFP’s Africa photo chief Marco Longari.

The retrospective ‘Crowds and Solitude in Africa’, which is being shown at the Hôtel Pams, looks back over his coverage of the continent.

His work shows the continent’s diversity and the contradiction between the attachment to traditional values and the emergence of a sense of global belonging.

Longari’s images depict citizens who seek political change through acts of defiance, resistance and progress.

He will also take part in the festival’s first ‘Live Magazine’ on September 6 at the municipal theatre.

Photographers, journalists and artists will go on stage to describe the world in words, images and music.

On September 8, AFP will host a session dedicated to the coverage of French elections under the Fifth Republic.

In videotaped interviews, seven AFP photographers will recall their most vivid memories.

This will be followed by a discussion of the interviews, what went on behind the scenes, and the coverage of the 2017 election.

The best images from these election campaigns will be presented in an evening projection at the Campo Santo outdoor theatre.
