Renault says sales stalled in first half

French auto giant Renault said Thursday that global sales stalled in the first six months of the year, held back by weaker Dacia sales in Europe.  

Renault said in a statement that it sold just under 1.2 million vehicles in the period from January to June, 0.4 percent fewer than in the first six months of 2025.

In Europe, its main market, sales fell by 1.3 percent to 821,092 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

And while the Renault brand, the number two player in Europe, posted a 2.6 percent increase year-on-year to 528,849 units, sales of Dacia brand slumped by 8.7 percent to 284,021 vehicles, the statement said.

Renault has embarked on a massive electrification drive.

It said that 52 percent of its passenger car sales in Europe are now electrified vehicles -- fully electric, plug-in hybrids and non-plug-in hybrids -- up from 43.8 percent in the first half of 2025.

Two-thirds, or 66.3 percent, of Renault brand cars are electrified, up from 59 percent a year ago.

For the Dacia brand, the proportion rose to 30.8 percent from 23.6 percent.

Renault said that outside Europe it continued to "strengthen its positions in its strategic markets."

In India, sales rose by 61.2 percent in the first half, in Turkey by 15.4 percent, in Morocco by 13.7 percent and in Brazil by 5.3 percent.
