Special Report - Survivors of the Nazi concentration camps

We are today publishing the first part of a series devoted to survivors of the Nazi concentration camps, 75 years after the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp and to mark the World Holocaust Forum on January 23 at Yad Vashem.

For weeks, AFP journalists from the Jerusalem bureau interviewed 10 of the last survivors of Auschwitz, the former Nazi death camp that has come to symbolise the Holocaust.

AFP's archives and photo services have also selected images taken in 1945 by Eric Schwab, an AFP photographer who accompanied Allied forces as they advanced and who was himself also searching for his mother who had been deported. His unflinching lense bore witness to the full horrors of the Holocaust.

Using a drone, AFP additionally has some rare images of Auschwitz in photo and video.
