AFP wins the Photo of the Year Award at the Istanbul Photo Awards
AFP is also rewarded with the 1st prize in the "News Story" category during the 2019 edition of the competition.
Ahmad Gharabli received the "Picture of the Year" award for his photograph of a Palestinian woman and a member of the Israeli security forces taking pictures of each other with a mobile phone during a demonstration in Jerusalem in December 2017.
Palestinian, born in Jerusalem, Ahmad Gharabli, 39 years old, started to work with AFP in 2006 before joining the Jerusalem’s office where he is staff member since 2016.
Guillermo Arias received the 1st prize of the category “News Story” for his images of the journey of thousands of Central American migrants, mostly Hondurans, who have trekked for over a month in the hopes of reaching the United States.
Mexican photographer based in Tijuana, Guillermo Arias regularly collaborates with AFP for which he covered the exodus of Central American populations.
