Greece's Tentoglou wins fourth European long jump title

Greece's Miltiadis Tentoglou underlined his credentials as the 'Mr Consistency' of long jumping by winning his fourth European long jump title in Birmingham on Tuesday.

The double Olympic champion, 28, was put under presure by Switzerland's Simon Ehammer, but came through with a winning 8.44 metres on his fourth attempt.

Ehammer, the world indoor heptathlon champion and heptathlon world record-holder, had taken the lead with his second effort of 8.29m at the Alexander Stadium, but the Greek showed all his experience of delivering on the global stage.

Bulgaria's reigning European indoor champion Bozhidar Saraboyukov snatched bronze with a last-gasp leap of 8.26m.

One absentee from the final was the world outdoor and indoor champion from 2025, Italy's Mattia Furlani, who failed to make it through qualification on his comeback from injury.
